I have been using one or two iPad drawing apps lately to see what sort of results you can get and have been pretty impressed so far. These apps will definitely be my winter art medium of choice. Particularly today when I really don't fancy sitting in my unheated garden studio (and no water required or brushes to clean). Also great for sketching on the go - now I just take the iPad!
I'm still getting used to this method of drawing as it's certainly very different from using the usual brush or a pen but some of the blending tools on these apps are wonderful.
Have just finished this drawing of David Attenborough which I did in about 90 minutes. Sometimes I can get a likeness quickly and the drawing starts to come together really well - love when that happens! Other times, well let's just say the 'delete' button is very useful. I could work further on this drawing but have decided it's best to leave it as it is.
I much prefer doing portraits of older people. There is just so much more information in their faces, so much more character in the lines and folds and texture of the skin. Their faces really do tell a story.
